He said his cousin, Pilot Sathe was "proud" to be a part of the Vande Bharat mission -- the flight on which Captain Deepak Sathe was killed -- in bringing back stranded Indians from foreign countries due to coronavirus pandemic.
Nilesh Sathe, cousin of pilot Deepak Vasant Sathe who died in the Air India Express plane crash incident on Friday, said the captain of the ill-fated flight had told him a week before he died that he was "proud" to be a part of the Vande Bharat mission and serve his countrymen.
In an emotional post, cousin of Captain Deepak Vasant Sathe, said his brother "martyred" his life to save the lives of hundreds of passengers onboard the Air India Express plane that crashed at Kozhikode airport.
The Air India Express flight (AXB1344, B737) from Dubai with 190 on board overshot the tabletop runway at Kozhikode airport on Friday night while landing in heavy rain and fell into a valley 35 feet below and broke into two, killing at least 18 people including two pilots. Captain Deepak Vasant Sathe, the pilot of the Air India Express flight, and his co-pilot died.
Reports claimed that Captain Deepak Sathe had turned off the engine right before the crash, saving the lives of his passengers and the cabin crew.
