CBI probe into Sushant Singh Rajput case to Modi-Shah's favorite officials
New Delhi, dt.  19 (PCB): The Supreme Court has decided to hand over the investigation of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's suicide case to the CBI.  The Supreme Court has directed the Mumbai Police to hand over the evidence collected so far to the CBI.  A CBI team comprising CBI Joint Director Manoj Shashidhar, DIG Gagandeep Gambhir, SP Nupur Prasad and DSP Anil Kumar Yadav will arrive in Maharashtra tomorrow.

The Supreme Court today (August 19) handed over the probe into the Sushant Singh Rajput suicide case to the CBI.  After registering the FIR on August 6, the CBI has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the case.  Manoj Shashidhar, an IPS officer from the Gujarat cadre who is considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, will head the CBI team.

Gagandeep Gambhir and Nupur Prasad have also been included in the four-member SIT team to ensure that there is no difficulty in interrogating the women accused.  Anil Yadav will be the investigating officer.

Who is in the SIT squad?
 1. Manoj Shashidhar, Joint Director: Appointment by Amit Shah in CBI
Manoj Shashidhar, a 1994 batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre, has been appointed as Joint Director of CBI in January.  His name was approved by the Cabinet Appointments Committee chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  When Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Manoj Shashidhar held many important posts.  Before joining CBI, Manoj Shashidhar was posted in Gujarat as DGP, CID (Intelligence Bureau).

According to sources, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Reddy wanted to hand over the probe into the case to a non-Telugu-speaking joint director.  He had also written a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah in this regard.  After that Manoj Shashidhar was called to Delhi from Gujarat.  He has previously held sensitive posts like Commissioner of Police (Baroda), DCP Crime Branch (Ahmedabad) and Joint Commissioner (Ahmedabad).  The special thing is that so far they have not failed in any investigation.  Manoj Shashidhar has been appointed to the CBI for five years.  Earlier, he had also oversaw the investigation into the Vijay Mallya case.  They are known for working in high-risk, high-stress environments.

 2. Gagandeep Gambhir, DIG: Effective investigation in illegal mining case in Uttar Pradesh
Gagandeep Gambhir was educated at Muzaffarnagar in Bihar and Punjab University.  Those toppers remain there too.  She is a 2004 batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre.  Are considered masterminds in the investigation of scams in the CBI.  It is said that Gagandeep does not succumb to political pressure.  That is why he was tasked with investigating Akhilesh Yadav's role in the illegal mining case in Uttar Pradesh.  He also inquired into the Srijan scam and journalist Upendra Rai's case.  Gambhir wanted to be a police officer from an early age.  Even after getting good ranking in UPSC exams, he opted for IPS instead of IAS and became an officer of Gujarat cadre.

 3. Nupur Prasad, SP: Part of the team due to Bihar connection
Nupur Prasad is a 2007 batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre.  Nupur, who hails from Tikari in Bihar's Gaya district, is considered one of the toughest CBI officers.  Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Nupur Prasad graduated from Bihar University.  He started his career in 2007 as DCP of Shahdara in Delhi Police.  He has recently been promoted and sent to CBI.

 4. Anil Kumar Yadav, DSP: Investigation into the murder of persons involved in the Vyapam scam
DSP Anil Kumar Yadav is from Madhya Pradesh.  He has proved his mettle many times when it comes to investigating the complexities of the murder.  Anil Kumar Yadav has inquired into the deaths of people involved in the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh.  Yadav has been awarded the Republic Day Police Medal in 2015 for his work.  In Sushant's case, he has been made the investigating officer.  Prior to Vyapam, he was also a member of the probe team in high-profile cases like the Yadav Commonwealth scam and the Augusta Westland scam.

Yadav has earlier probed the Shopia case and the Vijay Mallya case.  An official who worked with Yadav said that Yadav's role would be crucial in making it clear that Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide.

What will be the direction of CBI investigation?
Mukesh Sahni, a retired senior SP in the CBI, told Dainik Bhaskar that the matter would be investigated on the basis of an FIR lodged by the Bihar police.  The CBI will now collect documents from Bihar and Maharashtra police based on the investigation so far.  This includes call detail record (CDR), bank account details.

So far, Bihar police have only been able to get answers from Sushant's relatives.  The answers of others, including Rhea, were not recorded.  The CBI will do this now.  The CBI will have to collect CCTV footage, details of the inquiry, postmortem report, FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) report from the Mumbai Police.

After submitting the documents, the investigating officer will prepare an action plan.  On that, top CBI officials will decide the direction of the inquiry.  After this, Yadav will start his work.  The most important of these is recreation.  In each case, within 15 days, 30 days, the investigating officer has to submit a progress report to higher authorities.  But, given the seriousness of the matter, it seems that each stage will be reviewed by higher authorities.

The Supreme Court has clearly stated in its judgment that the motive of the accused was proved only if the motive of the accused was proved.  Therefore, it will be a necessary condition to carry out the investigation.  The FIR alleges that Riya and her relatives induced Sushant to commit suicide.  The CBI will have to prove through interrogation that Sushant committed suicide, which was Riya's intention.

Circumstantial evidence will be required along with physical evidence.  For this, Riya's relatives, Sushant's friends, Aptesht and everyone else will be questioned, who can talk openly about their relationship.
