LIVE: Recovery rate of Covid-19 patients in India best in world, says govt

Coronavirus update: India has recorded 64,553 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 2,461,542. With over 1,000 fatalities reported on Thursday, the country's death toll surged to 48,144.  India, the third-most-affected country by total cases and fourth by death toll, has added 434,116 cases in the past 7 days alone.

The five most affected Indian states by total tally of cases are Maharashtra (560,126), Tamil Nadu (320,355), Andhra Pradesh (264,142), Karnataka (203,200), and Delhi (1,49,460). tally in West Bengal has crossed the 100,000-mark with 2,931 new infections. Mumbai, India's financial capital, now has more Covid cases than Canada. Meanwhile, with 140,775 corona cases, Uttar Pradesh is catching up with Delhi, which at present is the fifth-worst-hit state in India.
 
Coronavirus world update: As many as 21,068,695 people around the world have been diagnosed with Covid-19. While more than 13,742,803 have recovered, 757,444 have died so far. The US, the worst-hit country by total cases, now has 5,380,358 cases. It is followed by Brazil, which has 3,229,621.

Nagpur records highest single-day rise of 1,036 Covid-19 cases

Nagpur district of Maharashtra recorded its highest single-day spike of over 1,000 Covid-19 cases on Friday, a district official said.
 

With the detection of 1,036 Covid-19 cases, the district's Covid-19 tally has reached 12,745, the official said.
 

As many as 123 patients were discharged from hospitals following their recovery, while 27 persons succumbed to the infection, he said.

Andhra Pradesh records 8943 Covid-19 cases, infection count now over 2.7 lakh

Andhra Pradesh reported 8,943 Covid-19 cases on Friday, pushing the overall tally to 2,73,085.
 

The latest bulletin said these cases were registered in the last 24 hours from 53,026 tests but 9,779 coronavirus patients got cured and discharged from hospitals across the state.


Also, 97 fresh casualties were reported pushing the death toll to 2,475.
 

The number of active cases stood at 89,907 after a total of 1,80,703 patients had recovered so far.

No decision on new academic session in Goa yet: CM on Covid-19

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said no decision has been taken on starting the new academic session in the state, which has been delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic.
 

The decision to start the academic year will be taken depending on the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), he said while interacting with students.
 

"When we are facing a pandemic situation, we are not sure when the schools and colleges will exactly reopen," he said
